Botanical name :

Plumeria alba L.
Synonyms : Plumeria revolutifolia Stokes // Plumeria alba var. jacquiniana A.DC.

Botanical profile :

Frangipani tree is part of the Apocynaceae family, and of the genus Plumeria.

Chemotypes :

A few varieties of fragipani are reported. We can notice :
Plumeria Acutifolia
Plumeria Alba (only variety used for perfumery)
Plumeria obtusa
Plumeria rubra

Extraction process :

Frangipani is a shrub that can measure from 5 to 10 m high whose flowers harvest is made between march and april.
It is possible to extract this tree's smell by different means. Volatile solvents (hexane) is the most common. It brings a 0,4 to 0,5% yield.
Extractions by distillation are also managable, with a 0,01% yield. This is the reason why the absolute is used in majority in perfumery.

Other comments :

Frangipani gets its name from the master glovemaker-perfumer Frangipani who created almond-scented gloves during the 16th century, that has a smell very close to the EO obtained from frangipani.

Stability :

Very unstable, due to the presence of esters, that can convert themselves into their corresponding acid.
