Uses
Uses in perfumery :
Geranyl Propionate is used to bring a fruity note to accords of rose, lilac, lily of the valley and heady flowers.
Year of discovery :
Data not available.
Natural availability :
Geranyl Propionate is present in Geranium EO and Verbena EO in low proportions, despite of what, it still can be extracted, even though, the synthetic compound is the most often used in perfumery.
Isomerism :
Neryl Propionate, the diastereoisomer of Geranyl Propionate, is greener and jammy. It is also synthesized in the same way, from Nerol. Lyral® is a constitutional isomer of the Geranyl Propionate. The smell is however less rosy, although it is also floral.
Synthesis precursor :
Geranyl Propionate is not a precursor to the synthesis of another compound of olfactory interest.
