Uses
Uses in perfumery :
Propylene Glycol is a perfume solvent used to dilute some overly viscous raw materials. It is used in various functional perfume bases where it is appropriate. These bases are the same as for DPG, but the latter is much more widely used than PG.
Year of discovery :
Data not available.
Natural availability :
Propylene Glycol is note reported as found in nature.
Isomerism :
Propylene Glycol does not have any isomer used in perfumery.
Synthesis precursor :
Propylene Glycol is used for the synthesis of Dipropylene Glycol.
Synthesis route :
Propylene Glycol is produced by a reaction between Propylene Oxide and water, in an acid medium. Biosynthesis methods are carried out although they are more expensive.
