Barley is a very hardy herbaceous grass, so it can be found all over the world. The place of culture which is studied here is France but it is also present in large quantities all over the mediterranean area as well as in all the countries with a temperate climate.

Because of its very long history and its diversity in cultivation, the genus Hordeum has a very large range of species (about 30 registered) and cultivars (several hundred).

Extraction of malted and roasted seeds
Major Components :
Due to the roasting process prior to extraction, this extract contains many pyrazines, pyridines, furfural and all their respective derivates. It also contains many different acids.
- Uses in perfumery :
- Use in gourmand/ food notes thanks to its warm, cereal, coumarined and torrefied facets. The top note is very fruity rum so it allow to support red fruits accords for example. Very interesting for its roasted facets.
- Other comments :
- Barley is one of the most widely grown cereals in the world. In 2017, its production volume, which is estimated at 150 million tonnes, made it the fourth most cultivated plant in the world (after rice, corn and wheat).
